Facebooking Your Business is Easier than You Thought (With a lot More Puppies)

Facebook is one of those sites that can turn your “2 minute scroll before I get out of bed” into a half an hour time warp and now you are late for work. Obviously billions of people are scrolling endlessly through this site, including you, so how do you plop your business into their feed without getting in the way of their “5-cute-animal-videos-in-a-row streak?”

Well, as the saying goes, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

You see, Facebook is comprised of 3 main subjects: Family, Friends, and Fun (that’s where the puppy videos come in but we will get to that later.)

Since you are not their friend, nor their family, you have to slide into their “fun” category as seamlessly as possible or imitate their friends. As a creator on Facebook, your job is to disguise your posts as ones your audience would see shared by their friends and family…(so basically puppy videos). But there are more ways to go about this than just spamming the internet with fuzzy animals…. unfortunately.

Photos

Let’s face it, when you are scrolling it isn’t words that catch your attention, it’s images. Facebook is a gold mine for posting, viewing, and sharing images. Many images fall into the “adorable” or “shocking” category that gets people to react and comment on your posts which is exactly what you are looking for.  If you can find a way to link it back to your own content, perfect! but sometimes you just need to provide some “fun” for your audience to keep them invested and keep you relatable.

Videos and Quizzes

Time is valuable, but you can bet we will all waste it watching videos and taking quizzes on Facebook. Out of all the things that get shared, these are probably the top of the list and fit perfectly into this “fun category.” There are many videos and quizzes that fit well into all kinds of business umbrellas and if you can get your viewers to share videos with your page as their secondary source, you will find more traffic being pulled to your way. Quizzes are a sure fire way to get people to interact with your post, commenting their answers, sharing for their friends to take it, and broadcasting their reactions as well.

Blog Post Summaries

While the above are both fun, fun, fun, we all know that your actual business has to come in there too. If you have a business you are very likely to have a blog as well, and what could be better than stretching the reach of your posts with the use of other social media! Blog summaries are a perfect fit for Facebook. Taking the one-hit liners from your article and inserting a link (which Facebook already adds a lovely preview for) catches viewers attentions, pulls your Facebook traffic to your blog, and provokes interaction on both posts! If readers want to share your content with their friends and family, Facebook has made it the simplest out of all the social medias with their big old “Share” button on each post and an endless amount of characters to add their two cents.

There are obviously many other types of Facebook posts that can help your business, but these three are the solid base for disguising yourself as content your audience would see from their friends and family that is fun and creates interaction. Remember to balance your “fun” and “work” on Facebook for what your viewers would like to see. The Social Media Marketing Workbook by Jason McDonald suggests a 80% to 20% fun to work ratio for Facebook in their 2016 edition, so treat yourself and spend some time looking for adorable animal videos to share on your page!
